With the traditional summer-break in sight, the Pole team was kept busy throughout the July weekends, covering various championships across the Asia-Pacific region.
Formula E kicked off the month by racing at its second location in China for Season 12, with Shanghai International Circuit hosting a double-header. While Nissan Formula E Team had a challenging weekend in tricky wet conditions, a late charge from Oliver Rowland during Sunday’s E-Prix earned the squad valuable points, as the Brit crossed the line in eighth, also taking the extra point for fastest lap.
Elsewhere in the region, Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia and Porsche entries in Thailand Super Series were racing as part of the Bangsaen Grand Prix. The event, which attracted over 300,000 spectators across the weekend, saw Porsche Junior Marcus Amand secure an excellent double victory to extend his advantage at the top of the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia drivers’ standings.
In Thailand Super Series, B-Quik Absolute Racing’s Henk Kiks and Alessandro Ghiretti took a pair of GT3 second-place finishes, while Simon Chan and Li Jia claimed third in the GTM class across both races. In the GT4 category, Kantadhee Kusiri and Dechathorn Phuakkarawut clinched victory in the opener before earning second on Sunday, where they would be joined on the podium by their AAS Motorsport teammates Kmik Karnasuta and Thanapattra Sutthisawang who came third.
The following weekend saw 11 Porsche entries tackling Fuji Speedway across both GT World Challenge Asia and SRO Japan Cup. The marque secured an excellent 1-2 during Sunday’s event with Lu Wei and Laurin Heinrich taking the win for Origine Motorsport, being followed home by Phantom Global Racing’s Anthony Liu and Dorian Boccolacci.
After a rare weekend off, the Pole team was busy in the lead up to Formula E’s third trip to Tokyo, as Nissan announced a multi-year agreement to supply its Formula E GEN4 powertrain to Andretti Formula E from Season 13 onwards.
On track, Nissan Formula E Team scored points across both of its home E-Prixs, with Oliver Rowland finishing seventh on Saturday before coming fourth during Sunday’s event. Norman Nato also recovered strongly to take sixth during Round 15, with the results leaving Rowland just 14 points off the Drivers’ Championship lead heading to the Season 12 finale in London.
On the same weekend, 16 Porsche cars took on China GT in what turned out to be a rain-affected event at Zhuhai International Circuit. There would only be two out of the originally scheduled four races, with Yuan Bo and Leo Ye clinching a third consecutive GT3 win for Winhere Origine Motorsport.
Porsche would also wrap up victory in the GTC/GTS race as 610 Racing’s Dylan Yip and Yang Baijie dominated the hour-long race, with Moritz Berrenberg taking GTS Am-class success for Maxmore W&S Motorsport.
August, which is traditionally a quieter month as Formula 1 breaks for the summer, looks set to be a busy one as Formula E completes its last races of the GEN3 era in London. Over in Asia, Super GT takes on two rounds, while Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia and Thailand Super Series gear up for an action-packed weekend in Sepang, before GT World Challenge Asia and SRO Japan Cup conclude the month at Okayama.
