After the traditional summer break in the motorsport world in August, the action returned in September, with multiple clients in action across the month. The office also became busier, with everyone back ahead of the first race weekend, as Formula 2 and Formula 3 took on Monza.
DAMS Lucas Oil had a tough weekend in F2, as they were plagued by straight-line speed issues, but it was a positive end to its debut F3 season, with Matías Zagazeta securing fourth in the Sprint Race, the team’s best finish in the championship in what has been a year of learning for the French squad.
Formula 2 was back on track two weeks later on the shores of the Caspian Sea in Baku, Azerbaijan, where DAMS Lucas Oil put the troubles of Monza behind them. Aston Martin F1 Reserve and Development Driver Jak Crawford took pole position in what was a messy session, before coming through the field to claim fourth in the semi-reverse grid Sprint.
His best work was to follow on Sunday, coping excellently with a tough start, Safety Car interventions and late pressure from behind to take a fourth win of the season, moving himself up to second in the Drivers’ Standings. The American will have his eyes on the title as the series heads into its final two rounds, while the team will be looking to improve on its current position of fourth in the Teams’ Championship.
Pole also kept across plenty of action in Asia, with Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific taking on the return of the Suzuka 1000km with 11 cars. In the build-up, Pole released the interview piece between Henri Pescarolo and Laurin Heinrich, which we worked on in August. The feature also went up on the Porsche Newsroom, and can be read here.
Three of those, all in the Pro class, sported classic liveries, which was revealed in August when we announced the entries. After superb battles throughout the race, the #7 of Absolute Racing clinched second place, while the team’s sister #10 car earned fourth and Bronze Cup victory.
The weekend also featured the finale of the Japan Cup, where Porsche entries took victories in both the GTC and GT4 categories, making for a long press release, which spanned almost five pages on Word!
A rare weekend off signalled the end of September, with the season beginning to approach its end. October will still be fairly busy, with content planned and three more race weekends.
